After several weeks of not performing as a team every player should be applauded for the effort they put in to gain a comfortable win against the league winners. This result now sees Rovers have the chance to finish runners-up should they win their last match against Bristol City SJFC and other results go their way.
The first game saw both sides trying to play football but not able to create many chances. Rovers showed a great determination to get to the ball first and when Bitton did get forward they could find no way past Rovers defence of Adam Porter and Kameron Brown who were ably supported by the rest of their hard working team. Rovers took the lead in the 5th minute when they were awarded a penalty which Ricky Kirby converted with a good shot into the corner of the net. Aaron Mansfield who worked tirelessly in midfield saw his shot in the 8th minute pushed over the bar and Samuel Johnson in the Rovers goal pulled off a similar save in what turned out to be the only other chances of the half.
Rovers started the 2nd half by putting a good move together from which Ben Alexander went past the last defender but put his shot wide. Bitton were being out battled but were unlucky when a speculative long range shot struck the Rovers bar. Rovers were given the opportunity to double their lead in the 31st minute when a shot from outside the box was handled near the goal line by a Bitton defender and Kirby stepped up to score his 2nd penalty of the game despite a brave effort by the Bitton goalkeeper to save his shot. The last few minutes saw Rovers not allowing Bitton any chances but unable to press home their superiority so the game finished with a 2-0 victory for Rovers.
The second game also saw Rovers show great determination and cause problems for the Bitton defence whilst defending well themselves when needed. George Cole who was playing with an injury he received in midweek was moved up front and he was unlucky in the opening minutes when his excellent turn and shot went just went wide of the post. The same player then set up Danny Ball but he misshit his shot when through on goal. Cole was rewarded in the 15th minute for his efforts when Ball laid the ball into his path and he finished with a good shot to give Rovers the lead. The whole of Rovers team continued to work very hard and only a couple of minutes later Nathan Hewitt's long ball up field bounced over the advancing goalkeeper to leave Cole with a simple tap in to double Rovers lead which they kept until half time.
Rovers continued to battle hard in the 2nd half against some excellent football being played by their opponents and it was Bitton who created the first chance when a good move brought a save out of Bradley Davies who replaced Ryan Rowe at half time in the Rovers goal. With Bitton pressing forward to get back in the game Rovers were denied a chance to increase their lead when good battling by Conor Harris to shrug off a defender saw him get a shot in that was well saved. As the game came towards its last few minutes Rovers began to tire following the great effort they had all put in and Davies pulled off another couple of very good saves to keep Rovers lead in tact. For the last couple of minutes Rowe replaced Cole in attack and he scored Rovers 3rd and final goal with his first touch as he slid the ball from close range passed the advancing keeper from Harris's cross.
