DOWNEND SAINTS 4 ROVERS B 1 SQUAD; CHAPPEL,WEST,DAVIES,WEBB,MULCAHY,WILSON,JEFFRIES,GOULD,TYLER,PORTER,CRIDDLE. SUBS; HOOK,BIRD,DIFFORD. REF;KYLE GWITHER; VERY GOOD. Two open goals were amongst a hatfull of chances missed by Rovers in the first half, as they suffered their first league defeat of the season. Downend on the other hand were a lot more clinical with their finishing and came away worthy winners. Some attractive football was again produced by Rovers but the inability to turn this pressure into points was again evident. Left wing ALEX GOULD had a promising debut as did midfielder LEE PORTER. The visitors went two behind midway through the first half with Downends AARON COLEMAN volleying two shots past the Rovers keeper HARRY CHAPPEL who had little chance with both of them. BRANDON TYLER managed to crawl one back to make it 2-1 at the break. Coach MARK JEFFRIES made good use of his subs with LIAM DIFFORD and AARON CRIDDLE again coming agonisingly close to scoring. But another double strike resulting from counter attacks from Downends' CHARLIE HICKS put the game further from the reach of Rovers, and so it ended 4-1. M O M award for Rovers went to AARON CRIDDLE, who once again worked for the whole 60 minutes. FROM THE TERRACES; "THE HEADLESS CHICKENS" I'm sure this is a case of "de ja vue", if my memory serves me right didn't some people somehow get lost going from Southey to Made for ever in this fixture last season ? Well this year it was the turn of STEVE (little mans dad). Whilst driving down New Cheltenham not 1oo% sure of where the ground was, he suddenly found himself behind the unmistakable little blue van that is driven by KEETONS grandad. "he must know the way" he thought, i'll follow him. So follow him he did. All the way to, wait for it, BITTON !!!!! And when they stopped outside KEETONS grandads house, STEVE innocently asked, "what are we doing here, this surely isn't wher Downend play ?" " well i don't know about you, but i've just come home to let my chickens out" came the reply. Never mind Steve, we're at home next week !!!! |
